(Don't) Take Life, Seriously.

If you've seen it, you know what it's about. If you haven't, then you should watch it. Not for the fainthearted. Only for those who can withstand fake blood, fictional stories of murderers, and a brilliant man who accepts his dark side. Dexter.

There is no denying the fact that it's a violent show. Bloodbath, nudity, gruesome acts of violence and perversion, and black thoughts. If you're not up for it, don't force it. Don't even worry about it. There are other things for you, friend. Things that have a better world in them.

A serial killer wants to rid the world of bad people. Murderers. How would he stop them? By killing them. One by one, without a trace. And getting away with it from within the system. He's not human. A monster, admittedly, and there is no false pretense here. He knows he's a bad guy, but he's trying to be good by being human. By killing evil, he wants to balance the world.

What about humanity, then? Can he ever justify killing? Can anybody be the good Samaritan by being a serial killer with good intentions? Is this what the world wants? Is this what the world needs?

There are some evil people in the world. They are born, raised, and taught about normalcy just like everybody else. But the path they choose is not clean. Not humane. Not even moral. They are looking for an expression. An expression of their true emotions. Psychopaths - that's what they're called. It still does not make sense. Killing does not make sense.

To them it does, though. That's the logic they live by. The code they follow. They hurt a lot of innocent people. Physical is just one dimension. Others follow right through.

If the evil have a twisted logic, Dexter's logic twists it back to death. It makes sense to him that killing is necessary. So he chooses the wicked, and kills them by following a code of ethics. And he takes this code very seriously. And then takes life, seriously.

In the six seasons of the show, I was impressed by the density and complexity of the characters, amazing performances of the actors, and simple yet effective storytelling. Protagonist, although many would argue that he's also the antagonist, is smart and clearheaded. Rarely have I liked any show for more than just an intelligent character, though. This has the drama and intensity to keep you rooted, and enough nudity for those who prefer it. Love it or leave it, Dexter has been the find of the decade, and I'm looking forward to the next and final two seasons. I hope Dexter's world doesn't end. But it will. Surely in the eighth season, it will all be over.

One of the best parts of the series is the opening credits. Quite long compared to the other shows, but it's really well thought out. It remains the same throughout the six seasons, and I really hope it stays the same for the remaining seasons as well. The music is music to the ears. The cinematography is perfect, and the sequences make sense. Along with it perfectly goes the bloody names of the actors and writers and producers and the crew.

In the end, it's just a show about a guy who takes life, seriously.  Watch it, and enjoy. You don't need to take your life seriously. Seriously.

    1. Good in a way in my opinion. Would you say death penalty is bad? Or would you say killing terrorists is bad? It's a matter of looking at it from different angles. Nothing is good or bad. It's always a mixture of the two. And then it's how you look at the mixture that would form your opinion about it. :)
